Non-emergecy helpline available on landline phones
By Frank Gerace

A phone service meant to connect Delawareans with essential services is now available on landline phones statewide.

The Delaware Helpline's 2-1-1 service is designed to help those in need find rent assistance, food banks, affordable housing, legal help and other non-emergency services.

Some cell phone carriers aren't yet linked to 2-1-1, so if you can't reach them, you can dial 1-800-464-HELP.

Officials say 2-1-1 call volume is increasing since the service was launched October 31st.

The service is available between 8 AM and 8 PM Monday through Friday, but is not a replacement for 9-1-1, an emergency number to be used only for life-and-death matters.
