Philanthropy report unveiled
A report on non-profit groups in Delaware finds they're "financially fragile", but essential to helping disadvantaged residents.
WDEL's Frank Gerace reports.
Lietuenant Governor Matt Denn told the audience at the unveiling of the report,
"Philanthropy in the First State" that non-profits are effective partners of state
government, often serving the most vulnerable citizens more efficiently and quickly than
government agerncies can.
The report, commissioned by the Delaware Philanthropy Forum, says although incomes in
Delaware are 2 percent higher than the national average, donors to non-profits here give
9 percent less.
More than 35 percent of the state's non-profits ran in the red between 2002 and 2007.
The report was compiled by KBT and Associates and presented at the Baby Grand in
Wilmington.
