GOP US Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell
Tea Party favorite Christine O'Donnell has upset Congressman Castle to win the Republican US Senate Primary.

O'Donnell, making her third Senate bid, outpolled Castle, a popular longtime US House member and former Governor, 53 to 47 percent after a campaign that included personal attacks on both sides and Castle's refusal to debate O'Donnell.

The Tea Party Express PAC made a push to get out the vote for O'Donnell, who as recently as two months ago wasn't thought to have a chance to beat Castle, who had the state Republican Party's endorsement.

O'Donnell will now face Democrat Chris Coons, who's currently New Castle County Executive, for the US Senate seat now held by Ted Kaufman but held for 36 years before that by Vice President Biden.
