By Tom Lehman 1:14am, October 6, 2012 - Updated 1:36am, October 6, 2012St. Elizabeth's wide receiver Andre Patton scored three touchdowns as the Vikings edged Appoquinimink in 24-21 victory Friday night.
The scoring started in the 1st Quarter as the Jaguars took the early advantage on Jeriah Hercules' 51-yard run to the endzone and led 7-0.
St. E's responded on the next drive when QB Christian Gwynn found Patton on a 19-yard pass to tie the score at 7-7.
The score stayed the same until the 2nd when Adam Szczerba hits a 32-yard field goal for a 10-7 lead.
Appo answered back later in the quarter when Malachi Esdale intercepted a Vikings' pass and returned it to complete the pick-six to take a 14-10 lead
It didn't last long--Patton returned the kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to give St. E's the 17-10 lead into halftime.
Both teams were kept off the board in the 3rd Quarter--neither the Vikings or Jaguars could find the endzone until the 4th, when--Gwynn found Patton for a 36-yard touchdown--his third of the game to extends to 24-14 with under 10 minutes left in the game.
With four minutes left to go, St. E's blocked a field goal attempt--a play that would be important after Landon Archangelo scored on a QB to get Appo within 3 points with just over 1 minute left in regulation.
However, the Jaguars couldn't complete the comeback as St. E's recovered the ensuing onside kick attempt and ran out the clock with a couple of kneels to hold on to the 24-21 win.
