Highlights of the quarterfinal DIAA state tournament gamePolytech's field hockey team has been knocked out of the DIAA state tournament quarterfinals for the past two years.
On a brisk cold Tuesday night, the Panthers changed the outcome when they defeated Wilmington Christian 2-0 in a head-to-head match up at Appoquinimink High School.
After a scoreless half, the Panthers came out ready to score. A little more than twenty-three minutes remained, when Polytech's Jenna Hayes snuck in a goal through defenders to put the Panthers on the board first 1-0.
"I wanted this more than anything, especially for me it's my senior year. You know, We wanted to make Polytech history. This is the farthest any field hockey team has gone in the state tournament, so we were really really excited," said Hayes.
A couple minutes passed when Brandi Dalious scored off a penalty corner from teammate Jorden Dennis and sealed the 2-0 victory against the Warriors.
Dalious told WDEL, how her team prepared for the Tuesday night battle.
"We worked hard at practice, non-stop. We prepared for overtime, just in case. We pretty much put our heart into this game because we wanted to make history this year and it's pretty exciting," said a joyful Dalious.
Wilmington Christian finished with a 8-4-3 record for the 2012 season, and Polytech will face Delmar on Thursday.
