By Frank Gerace 11:22pm, December 13, 2012On its 376th birthday, Senator Coons acknowledged the National Guard's contribution to our country.
Speaking on the Senate floor Thursday, the Democrat paid tribute to Major General Frank Vavala and the Delaware National Guard.
"They transport people and supplies on land and through the air, they defend the nation in cyberspace, they support law enforcement's work against illegal drugs, they're on the scene of any suspicious chemical or biological event, and they enable friendly forces to communicate with each other in war zones."
Coons said he would meet with military officials Friday at the Pentagon about critical defense needs, including those of the Guard, to help it perform its dual role as first responders and a reserve force in foreign wars.
