DNREC: You can recycle your Christmas tree again this year

Once again this year, you'll be able to recycle your Christmas tree after the holidays.

DNREC reminds you that trees will be accepted for recycling from December 26th to January 26th at several yard waste disposal sites statewide.

Several sites won't charge you to recycle your tree, but before you drop your tree off, remember to take the tree out of its stand and take off all decorations, including hooks, wire and tinsel.

Trees won't be accepted from commercial haulers or tree vendors without prior notification.

Here's a list of the facilities where you can drop your Christmas tree off for recycling free of charge:

New Castle County
Polly Drummond Hill Community Yard Waste Demonstration Site
Located in the Pike Creek area on Polly Drummond Hill Road, about 1/2 mile north of Kirkwood Highway.
Hours: Daily 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. unless otherwise posted.
Brookhill Yard Waste Site (new site, operated by Holland Mulch)
NOTE: Open Dec. 26 for Christmas tree drop-off only at this time.

*Please note that private businesses accepting trees may alter their hours of operation during the holidays.
Facilities that charge a fee for dropping off other yard waste will continue to charge regular rates for recycling other yard waste during this time – only Christmas trees will be recycled for free.
