President Obama's pick for Secretary of State, Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.), won by a landslide.

The Senate voted 94 to 3 to confirm Kerry as the new Secretary of State, taking over for Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Kerry served as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, of which Delaware Senator Chris Coons (D) is a member.

Coons congratulated Kerry on the win, and calls the landslide vote "a testament to the bipartisan goodwill he has engendered" among his colleagues.

Senator Tom Carper (D) is a 12-year colleague of Kerry, and says that while Clinton leaves big shoes to fill, Kerry is up to the task.

Carper adds that he knows Kerry "stands ready to help lead our nation's renewed commitment" to combating the threat of global warming.
