St Georges softball opens season with win

Gabrielle Clark recorded 10 strikeouts as St. Georges opened up its season with a 3-2 road victory over Wilmington Charter Friday afternoon.

Charter got out to a fast start when Kylie Shivery's double drive in two runs in the bottom of the first. After allowing the early runs, Clark started heating up in in the bottom of the second when she struck out the side.

Gabrielle Edwards tied the game at 2 for the Hawks in the 5th with an RBI single which plated Alexis Baughman, who had earlier doubled.

The Hawks took the lead an inning later when Sarah Coyne tripled and then scored after a base hit by Emilee Thursby to give St. Georges a 3-2 lead.

Charter made one last push in the bottom of the 7th by putting two on with no outs. After a pair of outs, Clark sealed the deal with her 10th "K" of the game to end the game.

Clark pitched all seven innings allowing six hits and four walks for St. Georges (1-0).

Charter's Erin Anderson went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Kylie Shivery had the 2 RBI's on the double.

St. Georges will be at Dickinson on Tuesday, while Charter will take on William Penn next Friday.
