By Mellany Armstrong 7:26am, March 25, 2013A string of former employees could soon testify at the murder trial of a Philadelphia abortion provider who also worked in Delaware.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell is charged with killing a patient and seven viable babies, and violating state abortion laws. The second week of testimony starts Monday.
In opening statements, Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore called the workers nearly as "desperate" as the women seeking late-stage abortions.
Nine have faced criminal charges of their own, and three have pleaded guilty to third-degree murder.
Employee Adrienne Moton told jurors she worked for $8 or $10 an hour, while administering drugs and helping perform abortions.
All but one of the co-defendants has pleaded guilty.
Unlicensed medical school graduate Eileen O'Neill of Phoenixville is also on trial, fighting false billing and racketeering charges. She has pleaded not guilty.
