Bullying may involve kids-against-kids on the surface, but Wilmington Police say adults need to increase their role in preventing it and responding to it.

Public information officer Jamaine Crawford says parents need to realize that they may be steering their child to bullying through their actions.

"If I'm behind someone at a traffic light and I'm road raging and cursing at them then they're going to emulate my behaviors as well. The same thing happens with bullying. They see their parents interact and talk to so many people and then they bring that same behavior with them to school."

Crawford says he speaks to not only school children but PTA groups about appropriately handling bullying incidents and avoiding behaviors that can encourage it.
