Phillies claim OF Carrera off waivers from Indians

he Philadelphia Phillies have claimed outfielder Ezequiel Carrera off waivers from the Cleveland Indians.

To make room on the team's 40-man roster, outfielder Ender Inciarte was designated for assignment.

Manager Charlie Manuel says Carrera "is still improving as a hitter" and can play all three outfield spots. Manuel says Carrera gives the team a more experienced backup outfielder.

The 25-year-old Carrera hit .272 with two homers, 11 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 48 games with Cleveland in 2012.
