VIDEO: Highlights and Reaction from Padua vs. St. Mark's
Padua's Karlina Panella scored two first half goals as the Pandas held on for a 3-2 win at St. Mark's Wednesday night.

The sophomore opened the scoring in the 14th minute when she raced her defender 40 yards down the left sideline, then cut towards goal, firing a 18-yard blast just inside the far post to give Padua an early 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, freshman Gabrielle Villermaux took advantage of a wide-open net on a rebound after St. Mark's goaltender Nannah Ciolek had made a point-blank save to double the lead. At that point it appeared Padua was in control.

Following a Padua foul about five yards outside the penalty box, Niki Lemper got the Spartans on the board with a brilliant curving free kick which just snuck inside the far side crossbar and goalpost to bring St. Mark's within one.

Less than two minutes later Panella again had an answer, this time striking a brilliant one-time half-volley shot off a perfect crossing feed by Jessica Marini to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

After the break, Ciolek was able to stop a pair of Panella breakway attempts to keep it a two-goal game.

This proved important when again a Padua foul led to a free-kick from about 25 yards out by Lemper, who drilled a laser into the back of the net on the direct kick to make it 3-2.

St. Mark's would get one more chance to tie the game in the final five minutes, but Padua's Abigail Boudart made one of her two saves cutting off the angle of a Spartans shot to preserve the victory.

Padua outshot St. Mark's 7-4 in the contest in improving to 5-1 on the year.

Ciolek made four saves for the Spartans, who dropped to 3-2-1 with the loss.
