WDEL's Amy Cherry reports.A NASCAR driver stops by Delaware's largest construction site to stress work zone safety.
WDEL's Amy Cherry was there.
NASCAR driver Martin Truex, Jr. says don't drive like him.
"No racing in the work zones," he says.
He's calling for drivers to slow down when they see the big orange signs before entering a construction zone as part of National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week.
"You know, if somebody's speeding through there or not paying attention, you really notice it. It's like c'mon, you know, pay attention, I'm standing here. You could run me over!" says Truex, Jr.
Truex says it's not just about slowing down either, it's about not driving distracted as well.
"No texting, no talking on the phone, none of that nonsense, and make sure these guys are safe enough to do their job," he says.
