VIDEO: Runners on the importance of running for BostonOver 600 runners and walkers took to the streets of Wilmington Wednesday night to raise money for the families of those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings last month.
The One Fund Boston 5K was the brainchild of area runners and organized in just seven days with at least 95% of the proceeds going directly to the charity.
Men's winner Men's winner Dan Suher (16:15) says he was proud to run in the event benefiting Boston.
"It hits you personally, because as an American, any time there's terrorist activity it hits you. But it's a strike on the running community, and a day like today shows just how strong that community is."
Women's winner Kirsten Belair (19:08) says Boston holds extra meaning in her running life.
"I did Boston (Marathon) years ago and it was just one of the highlights of my running career. All of my friends have been doing it for years and it's just something that everyone talks about and gets excited for every year."
