WDEL's Amy Cherry has more. The City of Wilmington celebrates a new town home community.
WDEL's Amy Cherry reports.
The hope is that Christina Overlook, just blocks from Wilmington's Riverfront, will help stabilize Browntown.
"Home ownership is very key to me and it's what a success our city's going to be. It causes stability and it makes families grow, and people feel part of our city when they own a home," says Mayor Williams.
The two and three bedroom town homes with attached garages have been in the works for quite some time.
"This was a tough project. We were coming out of, probably the nation's worst economy in real estate and we wanted to build 33 spec townhouses," says Anthony Casale, owner of Casale Construction, which built the town home community.
Casale boasts most of the town homes are sold out--even some that haven't been built yet.
"No sooner is the paint drying, we're going to closing," he says
City Council President Theo Gregory says housing like this improves neighborhoods.
"Browntown is solid. The sixth district is solid, and as our neighborhoods are solid, and certainly the City of Wilmington is solid," he says.
The town homes start at $169,000.
