By Sean Greene 12:26am, June 25, 2013Elena Delle Donne was honored as one of the top three College female athletes at the Honda Cup Ceremony in Los Angeles Monday night.
The Ursuline product joined LSU sprinter Kimberlynn Duncan, and Honda Cup winner Keilani Rickets of Oklahoma softball as the top three vote getters for the Honda Cup Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year Award.
Delle Donne finished second in the country with 26 points per game in leading Delaware to a 32-4 record and the program's first Sweet 16 appearance. She was named the Academic All-American of the Year by Capital One back in the spring.
Delaware has now had four players win individual sport player of the year awards: Delle Donne, baseball's Kevin Mench (1998), softball's Audie Kujala (1977), and lacrosse's John Grant (1999).
Delle Donne is still a finalist for the NCAA's Woman of the Year award, which will be presented in October.
