A bagpiper and a line of state troopers solemnly process past a new blue and white sign along Route 13 southbound near Bear, marking the spot where Trooper William Keller died January 22, 1971.

Nicole Keller was five weeks old when her father was killed.

"Riding up and down this road my entire life, and knowing where it occurred, this is just another way to memorialize his sense of service, his passion for the job," she said.

"He was devoted, I can remember, I think, the first time he put on his uniform to hit the road, and I'm not so sure that there was ever a more proud trooper," said Jim Keller, Trooper Keller's brother.

State Police Superintendent Nate McQueen says the sign is a reminder that his sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"We honor Trooper Keller for taking up the cause, making the commitment to serve and protect, and for accepting the responsibility and risk that goes with it," McQueen said.
