VIDEO: Highlights of Wilmington's Tuesday Night VictoryAngel Baez pitched six innings of one-hit baseball as the Blue Rocks defeated Myrtle Beach 5-2 at Frawley Stadium Tuesday night.
The Rocks' 22-year-old right-hander was forced to pitch in-and-out of trouble due to allowing four walks in his best outing in Wilmington. He didn't allow his first hit until one out in the 5th inning when Royce Bolinger singled to right field, only to then be erased as part of an inning-ending double play one batter later.
Jack Lopez helped give Baez an early advantage with a one-out double in the opening inning, eventually scoring on a wild pitch by Myrtle Beach's Nick McBride to give Wilmington a 1-0 lead.
Wilmington tacked on two more runs in the 2nd inning on an RBI double by Sam Bates who then scored on Ethan Chapman's single to bring the advantage to three.
Myrtle Beach cut the lead to 3-2 in the 7th inning, but then Wilmington put the game away with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Micah Gibbs drove in Bates with a single, and then Lopez added a bases loaded single over a drawn in infield to complete the scoring.
Baez struck out five while improving to 3-1 on the season. Malcom Culver pitched a perfect 9th for his 5th save.
