Citing a violation of University and team policies, Delaware has suspended sophomore linebacker Jeff Williams for one month, beginning with Saturday's game at Navy.

Williams has accounted for 10 tackles (one for loss) with two fumble recoveries in Delaware's season-opening wins over Jacksonville and Delaware State.

While not stating the reason for the suspension in a release from the school, Delaware head coach Dave Brock was quoted as saying: "The student-athletes who are part of the University of Delaware football program will be held to a high standard. When these standards are not met, there will be consequences and our players will be held accountable."
Williams' suspension will span four games: Navy, Wagner, James Madison, and Maine.
In the statement Williams said: "I understand that the choices I make affect more than just myself and I want to apologize to my teammates, my coaches, my family, the University, and the Blue Hen fans. I accept the consequences and I will take this time to work on making choices in the future that will benefit people around me."
