By Kelli Steele, Delaware 105.9 3:01pm, October 31, 2013What started as a challenge in 1986 has turned into an epic, world-class competition drawing hurlers and mega crowds from miles around - even overseas.
The 2013 World Championship Punkin Chunkin kicks off Friday morning in Bridgeville.
For three days, engineers, both serious and home grown, bring their huge contraptions and give it all they’ve got to chunk their 8- to 10-pound pumpkin as far as it can go.
Event Organizer Frank Shade says an international machine has arrived for this year’s competition.
"We have a machine from New South Wales in Australia that is going to be competing this year," Shade says.
Shade says there is a packed schedule every day, starting Friday at 8 a.m.
"We'll party right on through until about 7 or 8 o'clock Sunday night. The entertainment stage has a packed schedule full of entertainment coming on. The Myth Busters are going to be back. We have a few other celebrities that are going to be there," Shade says.
The Chunk runs from Friday through Sunday at Royal Farms in Bridgeville - rain or shine.
Adult tickets are $10 per person per day; parking is included in the ticket fee unless you're towing a trailer or have an oversize vehicle; if you do, there will be an additional charge.
