VIDEO: Highlights and Interviews from Tower Hill's VictoryTower Hill's Elizabeth Wuerstle served 7 aces, including 3 during a big 2nd set opening run, as the Hillers defeated Caravel in 4 sets in the DIAA Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
The 11th seeded Hillers fell in the opening set 25-23 after Caravel's Lindsey Pugh aced a serve at 23-23 to propel the Bucs to the win.
Wuerstle then took to the line to start the second set, and she didn't move, serving aces on the 1st, 4th, and 5th points of the stanza, ultimately pushing her team ahead 6-0, a lead that never got closer than 5 after that point. The 25-18 outcome evened the match at 1-all.
Caravel raced out early in the 3rd set with Micah Morgan's ace jump-starting an 8-3 advantage. The teams traded side-outs repeatedly from that point, although Tower Hill slowly worked their way back into the set, finally tying the frame at 22-all a point before taking the lead.
Back-and-forth the teams went with ties at 22, 23, and 24 before Haley Yatzus' tap shot over a double block put the Hillers ahead, and they claimed the next point to win the set 26-24.
The 4th set also went down to the wire, as Caravel saved four set points beginning at 24-20 thanks in part to a pair of blocks by Devon Chew at 21-24 and 24-25.
Ultimately Tower Hill would go back to Yatzus at 25-all, and Caravel's next attack went long to end the match, and the season for the 6-seeds.
Wuerstle finished with 25 digs and 4 kills to go with her 7 aces, with Yatzus adding 17 kills and 9 digs.
Taylor Chew had 12 kills for Caravel, who picked up 7 digs from Brittany Ford.
No. 11 Tower Hill advances to face No. 3 Delaware Military Academy Tuesday at 6pm at St. Mark's. DMA swept Wilmington Christian in the first game of the doubleheader at Dickinson.
