Caravel exploded for 19 4th quarter points, rallying from a halftime deficit to defeat No. 4 Delmar 33-17 on the road in the DIAA Division II Football 1st Round Saturday night.

Delmar Quarterback Shane Leatherbury gave his team a 17-7 halftime advantage after rumbling 36 yards for the touchdown using a variety of juke moves to elude Caravel's defenders.

It would be the last points for the hosts on the night, as Caravel's defense stiffened, and Jacob Shriner scored from 5-yards out to cut the deficit to 17-14 going into the final 12 minutes.

The Buccaneers would take the lead for good early in the 4th when Derrick Groomes scored from 3 yards away, giving Caravel its first lead since 7-0.

Caravel's defense only got more intense from there, creating 2 "Pick-6s" in the final quarter when Erich Heintzen and Shriner each ran back errant tosses for touchdowns, creating the final score.

No. 5 Caravel advances to face No. 2 Hodgson next weekend in the state semifinals.
