Healthier alternatives to Super Bowl snacking

State health officials say Super Bowl snacking doesn't have to be unhealthy.

The Division of Public Health has collected healthy recipes for snacks you can serve while hosting a Super Bowl party, like "Fajita-Spiced Roasted Chickpeas" and "Low Fat, No Mayo, Spinach and Artichoke Dijon.

If those foods aren't quite what you had in mind, Dr. Karyl Rattay with the Division of Public Health says there's also healthier ways to prepare more traditional foods.

"You can choose baked chips instead of fried chips, or with wings you can bake them or even better yet would be to choose some boneless, skinless chicken breasts and a variety of different sauces," Rattay says.

However, she says it's important to remember one thing: all good things in moderation.

"You might even want to eat a little something before you show up so you don't arrived famished and then eat large quantities of food that are adding up to a lot more calories than most people realize," she says.
