VIDEO: Highlights and reaction to Sanford's victorySanford's Mikey Dixon recorded 19 points and 8 rebounds while spearheading a renewed defensive push in a 76-55 victory over Cape Henlopen Saturday.
Cape Henlopen led 21-13 with 6:19 left in the opening half when Stan Waterman called timeout for his Warriors squad.
His team responded with an 11-2 run over the next 3 minutes to take their first lead since early in the game at 24-23 on a pair of free-throws by Dixon.
Cape would force a tie at 26 on a bankshot 3-pointer by Devin Vitella, but after Sanford scored the next basket, they led the rest of the way. Anthony Mosely's slam dunk just before halftime put Sanford up 8, and they took a 34-28 lead into halftime.
A Dixon three-pointer opened the second half, and Sanford won the quarter 21-9 to jump ahead by 18 and they cruised from there.
Four Warriors (10-6) reached double figures, with Todd Hughes leading the way with 21 points. Freshman Eric Ayala scored 18, while Mosely picked up 12.
Tyreik Burton led Cape Henlopen (9-8) with 20 points.
