Feb. declared teen dating violence awareness & prevention month

February is now going to be "Teen Dating and Violence Awareness and Prevention Month."

Governor Markell signed the proclamation on the last day of the month with advocates from a number of local organizations at his side.

Parents should remember, just like we push our kids with sports and music and their homework, we also need to help them understand how to have positive relationships.

"As kids grow up and go to school, we put so much pressure on everything else that they need to know that I think sometimes we overlook teaching them how to interact with other people," Kristen Herman of CHILD, Inc. told NBC 10.

Experts say this isn't just a problem with teenaged boys. Parents of teenaged girls also need to talk with their daughters about healthy, respectful relationships.
