The Getty on Basin Rd. has stopped selling gas after several motorists break down after filling up their tanks. (WDEL/Tom Lehman)A problem at a New Castle gas station is leaving motorists stranded.
WDEL's Amy Cherry has the news you heard first and exclusively on WDEL.
"My car just won't even like it just won't start at all. It just died."
Kevin Fogarty tells WDEL he always goes to the Getty gas station on Basin Road.
He filled up just like any other day.
"The pumps were running extremely slow. I mean like a cent a minute a second. It was really, really slow," he said.
He got up to $8 bucks and quit, and then...
"I didn't even make it out of the parking lot. I made a U-turn back onto Basin Road, and my car died," he said.
And Forgarty isn't alone. He says one guy's car was stranded at the pump, and another driver won't be getting to his destination anytime soon either.
:One poor guy from Connecticut just happened to be coming through here to D.C. and he's stranded now too. Our cars are just dying after we got the gas," Fogarty said.
Fogarty says he saw work crews at the Getty just the other day.
"They had the ground tore up, a few days, I noticed. It's gotta be water or somehow got in the system," he said.
Lieutnant Adam Brams with New Castle City Police says they were on-scene and have turned the matter over to DNREC.
In the meantime, Brams tells WDEL the Getty on Basin Road has stopped selling gas.
A manager tells WDEL that Getty will refund customers for the "bad gas" and reimburse drivers for car repairs.
