Vice President Joe Biden will return to his alma mater in May to deliver the University of Delaware's commencement address, the school announced on Monday.

Biden, who graduated from UD in 1965, will deliver the address at Delaware Stadium on May 31. The ceremony will occur regardless of the weather conditions and is open to the public.

As a U.S. Senator, Biden delivered three commencement ceremonies at the university in 1978, 1987 and 2004.

He also donated papers from his 36-year senatorial career to the university's library and delivered the inaugural James R. Soles Lecture on the Constitution and Citizenship in 2011.

The event will feature increased security and those attending are encouraged to arrive as early as possible.

Attendees will be required to go through airport-style magnetometers, and items, such as bags, bottles and umbrellas, will be prohibited, the school said.
