VIDEO: Highlights and Reaction to Wilmington's lossMyrtle Beach put together a four-run first inning, and then held on from there for a 4-3 victory over Wilmington in a morning contest at Frawley Stadium.
The 10:35am School Kid Special proved to be anything but special for Rocks' starter Yender Caramo, who ran into immediate trouble in the opening frame.
Odubel Herrera led off with a single and took second on a steal. He would score on Nick Williams' RBI single, which was the first of three straight that put them ahead 2-0.
After a wild pitch made it 3-0, Royce Bollinger's 2-out single plated what would turn out to be the winning run.
Wilmington would get a run back in the 3rd when Zane Evans' slow roller was bobbled by Alfaro, allowing Raul Monesi to score.
The game remained 4-1 into the 9th when Wilmington put runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out thanks to a walk, single, and a pair of steals by Terrance Gore and Mondesi.
After a pair of groundouts led to a run, Cam Gallagher singled to right off the glove of diving Royce Bolinger to plate Mondesi and make it a 4-3 game.
Johermyn Chavez then hit another liner to right, but this time Bolinger made the catch to end the game.
Caramo (0-1) picked up the loss by giving up the 4 runs on 6 hits in 5 innings of work.
Cody Ege (1-0) picked up the win in relief for Myrtle Beach. Keone Kela (1) was credited with the save despite giving up the two runs in the 9th.
