A teenager is in critical condition after an early morning fire in Cheswold.

Fire officials say crews arrived at the 4900 block of Kenton Road around 5 a.m. to a scene of flames shooting from the second floor of the home.

The 18-year-old woman allegedly jumped from a second floor window.

The state Fire Marshal's office says she suffered burns and smoke inhalation. She was rushed to Kent General Hospital for treatment.

Six other residents--four adults and two children--were able to escape unscathed.

An investigation suggests a passing motorist alerted the household of the fire, as there were no smoke detectors in the home.

Fire officials estimate about $20,000 of damage was done to the home.

The victims are being assisted by the Red Cross.
