Delmarva Power is rebuilding a half-century old transmission line between all three counties.

The 230,000 volt transmission line will be reconstructed on 58 miles of the existing right-of-way between the company's Red Lion, Cedar Creek, and Milford substations.

Phase 1 of the project starts this month, re-connecting Red Lion and Cedar Creek and won't be finished until December of next year. Phase 2 connects Cedar Creek to Milford and won't be finished until December 2017.

The project costs more than $70 million and requires replacing existing circuits and more than 400 wooden polls with all-weather steel poles.

Delmarva Power says rebuilding the transmission line will cut down on extended power outages.
