By Amy Cherry 4:28pm, August 13, 2014Dover High School is home to the state's second innovative pedestrian traffic signal.
The high-intensity activated crosswalk signal or HAWK system was installed so students and faculty members could safely cross Route 8 at Heatherfield Way.
The HAWK system, is only activated when a pedestrian approaches the signal and presses a button. When the signal isn't active, it will be dark and allow traffic to move freely.
The first high-tech signal of this kind was installed in 2010 on the University of Delaware's campus in Newark.
