Nemours, DSU to share federal sickle cell research grant

The Nemours Center for Blood Disorders and Delaware State University will share a federal grant for sickle cell disease research.

Nemours and DSU will get $10.2 million to study the genetic mutation that causes sickle cell, a hereditary disorder of red blood cells which primarily affects African-Americans and can shorten lives.

Nemours' share of the grant is $8.4 million, and DSU's is $1.8 million.
