VIDEO: Highlights and Reaction to A.I.'s victory

A.I. duPont's consistent second half pressure finally forced a Smyrna defensive mistake as the Tigers rallied for a 2-1 season-opening road victory.

Smyrna's Stacey Staley kicked the Eagles to a halftime lead after she took a high-bouncing pass from Maureen Hossler off the artificial turf and deposited it into the net for the only goal in the first 40 minutes.

A.I., which had more of the possession in the first half, finally found an answer to Smyrna's goaltender Kayla Kennedy when junior Megan McCormick took a long pass, worked around a couple of defenders, and then scored in the 48th minute.

Twelve minutes later the Tigers thought they had the go-ahead goal, only to have a shot blocked off the line by defender Brianna Distler, keeping it tied.

On the ensuing corner kick, a well placed ball landed in the evenly distrubuted mix of four players and deflected off a Smyrna player into the net putting A.I. ahead.

Smyrna had a couple of long-distance shots in the final 19 minutes, but couldn't find the equalizer.

A.I. outshot the Eagles 15-10, but Kennedy's 13 saves kept the game close.

A.I. (1-0) will face Appoquinimink on the road Wednesday night. Smyrna (1-0) hosts Seaford on Thursday.
