Summer 2019 will mark the debut of a ten-day classical music festival, Serafin Summer Music.
A preview concert will also be offered this Tuesday night at the University of Delaware
The festival, which starts June 20th, is the result of a collaboration between the University of Delaware Music Department and the Music School of Delaware. Guest musicians will join the Serafin String Quartet.
Serafin Summer Music artistic director Kate Ransom, who is also President and CEO of the Music School of Delaware, said she wanted to re-create the type of enjoyable festival she has been a part of in many destinations.
"These are just wonderful gatherings of musicians, like-minded musicians from around the world who have met one another by playing together or who meet each other at the festival," Ransom said. "They form friendships and artistic relationships that are very compatible and last a lifetime."
Gus Mercante, who instructs at the Music School, also will sing at the festival he is managing this summer.
"It's exciting to have art song included in this, and perhaps some more opportunities for vocal music in future festivals," Mercante said.
"There's a tremendous amount of variety," Ransom added.
Festival artists will join the preview concert Tuesday April 9th at the University of Delaware's Gore Recital Hall. Tickets for the summer festival are also available.
