A 23-year-old Chester man was tracked down and arrested in Pennsylvania after being connected to the December 2019 murder of a Lyft driver outside Wilmington, the U.S. Marshals Service announced Thursday.
According to authorities, Michael Toombs was wanted for shooting and killing 42-year-old Roger Williams, of Newark, in the unit block of Simca Lane at the Dorjul Apartments while Williams was working as a ride-share driver around 10 p.m. on December 12, 2019.
Toombs had been actively avoiding police and moving locations throughout several states, police said, but ultimately surrendered to authorities at the end of the seven-week manhunt.
He was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and turned over to Chester Police while awaiting extradition to Delaware.
