Delaware high school football teams have many goals going into the penultimate weekend of the 2019 regular season.
Some are looking to secure a playoff bid, while others hope for home games or a bye.
Yet another group look to take a step towards a .500 or winning season, while others are just hoping for their first win.
And then there's Polytech's seniors, who won't get to play again after their season was cut short before their final two games. That also means Milford and Smyrna's seasons will shrink by 10%. No winners there, even if it was questionably the right decision.
WDEL brings you two more games this weekend, a key match-up in Division 2 between DMA and Caravel, and then the Division 1 showdown between Middletown and Salesianum on Saturday.
There are some blowouts picked, but going 21-2 would be a shock this week.
SEAN GREENE – WDEL Sports Director - Last Week 21-2 (91%), Season – 145-36 (80.1%)
Thursday , October 31
Tatnall (2-6) at First State Military (3-4) - 3:30
SEAN GREENE – FSMA 15-13. Even match-up, if FSMA wasn't too beat up by DMA, there's a solid chance for a 4th win here.
Dickinson (0-8) vs. Howard (7-1) - 7:00 (at Caravel Academy)
SEAN GREENE – Howard 46-6. Wildcats clinch the Flight B title and get a full weekend to enjoy it.
Friday, November 1
Brandywine (4-4) at A.I. duPont (6-2) - 6:00
SEAN GREENE – A.I. duPont 35-12. Brandywine's strong season has hit the skids the past 2 weeks, and an A.I. team playing for its playoff life isn't a good way to get it back going.
Concord (4-4) at Appoquinimink (4-4) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Concord 14-7. Last year's tournament surprise team against a red-hot Concord squad. Don't think there will be many points in this one.
DMA (6-2) at Caravel (6-2) - 7:00 (WDEL AM1150/101.7FM)
SEAN GREENE – Caravel 28-21. Caravel's ambitious schedule doesn't leave much margin for error. Last time WDEL saw DMA they were shutout against Saint Mark's, the loser is probably going to watch the playoffs from the sidelines.
Sussex Central (7-1) at Dover (4-4) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Sussex Central 29-22. Dover is another team that took schedule chances that have had mixed results. Central still is fighting for a bye, the Senators need this to stay alive.
Cape Henlopen (2-6) at Smyrna (6-2) - 7:00 (Delaware 105.9FM)
SEAN GREENE – Smyrna 42-7. With Polytech's forfeit coming, this could be the Eagles' last game for 3 weeks if things break right and they get the bye.
Glasgow (3-5) at Saint Mark's (5-3) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Saint Mark's 28-14. Spartans are on the ropes with Salesianum looming next week, at least a win here guarantees them +.500.
Caesar Rodney (3-5) at Sussex Tech (3-5) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Sussex Tech 29-22. CR's been rolling up points this year (except against Middletown), they'll need to make some stops to win this one.
Lake Forest (7-1) at Woodbridge (8-0) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Woodbridge 28-14. Can Lake Forest make a complete mess of the Henlopen South title race? Have to think the Laurel game got the attention of the Blue Raiders.
Seaford (1-6) at Red Lion (5-3) - 7:15
SEAN GREENE – Red Lion 48-6. This has been a decent game in recent years, but this is a different Red Lion team that could be on its way to delivering a key bonus point to DSAC teams.
Delmar (6-2) at Laurel (3-5) - 7:30
SEAN GREENE – Delmar 29-16. One of these years I'll get to one of Delaware's best rivalries. Wildcats aren't afford to overlook this game with Woodbridge looming.
Saturday, November 2
McKean (4-4) at Newark (3-5) - 10:30
SEAN GREENE – Newark 21-14. Was the Yellowjackets' win over Brandywine real? If so, they could pull a 5-5 season out of the fire.
Archmere (6-2) at Wilmington Charter (0-8) - 11:00
SEAN GREENE – Archmere 42-6. The Force donate some more D1 playoff points to a member of the DSAC.
Saint Andrew's (4-4) at Conrad (5-3) - 11:00
SEAN GREENE – Conrad 26-22. The Cardinals break out the toughest part of their schedule, but Conrad could lock in a winning season here.
Christiana (1-7) at Delcastle (0-8) - 11:00
SEAN GREENE – Delcastle 18-6. Here is your chance, Cougars.
Hodgson (8-0) at William Penn (3-5) - 1:00
SEAN GREENE – Hodgson 34-14. Silver Eagles lock up Flight A.
Mount Pleasant (4-4) at St. Georges (4-4) - 2:00
SEAN GREENE – St. Georges 14-7. The other 4-4 battle in Flight A that will serve as an elimination game. Mount's Week 10 game against Middletown means a Green Knight win here could knock both out, but would lock in a .500 return to Flight A.
Middletown (7-1) vs. Salesianum (5-3) - 7:00 (at Brandywine - WDEL AM1150/101.7FM)
SEAN GREENE – Middletown 24-18. Pick might even be a little higher scoring than the game turns out to be, both offenses are struggling, but both defenses are tough. A Sallies loss would guarantee at least two teams with at least 4 losses make the D1 field.
Indian River (1-7) vs. Saint Elizabeth (2-6) - 7:30 (at Caravel)
SEAN GREENE – Indian River 20-6. Another incredibly close match-up to wrap up what could be tight weekend in Delaware.
