A shooting Monday afternoon in the area of 2nd and Scott streets in Wilmington injured two Delmarva Power contractors

A 31-year-old Delmarva Power contractor has died after being shot Monday. 

According to Wilmington Police, Dupree Burroughs, of Smyrna, succumbed to his injuries, they announced Wednesday. Burroughs was shot just after 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2019, in the 1800 block of West 2nd Street in the city's Hilltop section.

"We are saddened to hear this tragic news," said Jake Sneeden, Regional Communications Manager for Pepco Holdings Delmarva Power's parent company. "Given the ongoing nature of this investigation, we are referring all inquiries to the Wilmington Police Department at this time."

Burroughs was installing new gas main and service lines to homes and businesses in the area when he and a 48-year-old co-worker were shot. The second victim was listed in stable condition following the shooting.
