A 64-year-old Dover man was charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman walking through a shopping center, Dover Police announced Monday.

According to authorities, Michael Daniels approached the victim while she walked through The Centre at Dover Shopping Center in the 200 block of North DuPont Highway around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019, while the victim was on break from her employer.

Daniels, from inside a vehicle, asked the victim for directions to Loockerman Street, then asked the victim to get in his vehicle and guide him there, which the victim refused, police said.

Authorities said Daniels held his hand out as if to shake the victim's, then grabbed and forced her arm into the vehicle and made the victim touch his exposed penis.

Daniels fled the area and was stopped later that same day, but police didn't have enough information regarding the incident to arrest him at that time. Surveillance video of the incident was eventually located and an arrest warrant was issued July 12.

Daniels arrived to the Dover Police Department for an interview and was ultimately detained that same day. He was charged with third-degree unlawful sexual contact, second-degree indecent exposure, and offensive touching, and released of his own recognizance.

Anyone who may be able to provide additional information on Daniels regarding this or other, similar incidents, are urged to contact Dover Police at 302.736.7121.
