After $2.4 million of renovations, the city will celebrate the re-opening of Eden Park.
The renovations include a new turf athletic field, swimming pool upgrades, new playground equipment, a refurbished picnic area, new walkways and a resurfaced parking area.
City Council President Hanifa Shabazz says the completion of Eden Park's renovations is an example of Wilmington City Council working together.
"We stood fast and we told the administration that we would not budge off of the proposed leasing of Baynard Stadium to Salesianum unless they renovated and provide us a turf field in Eden Park," said Shabazz.
Eden Park's reopening will be Saturday, August 23, 2019 at noon. There will be free food, drinks and music. A ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Mike Purzycki and others will take place at 12:30 p.m.
"This beautiful new park will provide additional and much-needed recreation opportunities for children and families. The new look of the park is already generating wonderful comments from people in South Wilmington, and we invite citizens from across the City to join us for Saturday’s celebration and prepare to be surprised at how beautiful Eden Park looks today," said Purzycki
Saturday's event is open to the public.
