The Red Cross was called in to assist three adults and five children displaced by a mid-afternoon fire in the 800 block of Vandever Avenue in Wilmington on Tuesday.

Firefighters were called out around 3 p.m. on September 10, 2019, and found smoke coming from the second floor in the rear of the residence.

All of the occupants were out when firefighters arrived.

Crews made an interior attack and were able to control the flames to the room and contents of a second floor bedroom.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the city fire marshal's office.

The home was deemed uninhabitable by the Wilmington Department of Licenses and Inspection.

No one was hurt.
