A 22-year-old Elsmere man was sentenced to five years in prison for beating and raping his then-girlfriend in January, officials announced Friday.

According to the Delaware Department of Justice, Justin Stetter hit, bit, and strangled the victim during an argument in New Castle, then forced her into the backseat of a vehicle and sexually assaulted her.

He pled guilty to fourth-degree rape, strangulation, and resisting arrest.

In addition to his prison sentence, he'll be required to register as a Tier II sex offender, complete a certified domestic violence course, and undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations and resultant treatments.
