When Friends heads home to Alapocas Saturday night, we'll be halfway done the season.
Hard to believe it, but this is the halfway mark of Delaware's 10-week sprint to the state tournaments.
A season-worse 16-7 record came to this predictor after struggling with the out of state wins by Delmar and St. Andrew's, while in-state goofs on Smyrna (again), Caravel, Lake Forest, Archmere, and Laurel hurt the record.
But the number of the weekend is 4. "Fight Like Four", "Live Like Four", win or lose, you know Troy Haynes will be watching with interest.
SEAN GREENE – WDEL Sports Director - Last Week 16-7 (70%), Season – 71-23 (75.6%)
Friday, October 4
St. Andrew's (3-1) at FSMA (2-2) - 4:00
SEAN GREENE – St. Andrew's 28-21. Saint Andrew's schedule ramps up with Caravel, Tower Hill, and Friends the next 3 weeks, they need this one to keep their .500 hopes alive.
Concord (1-3) at Hodgson (4-0) - 4:00
SEAN GREENE – Hodgson 42-6. Concord is better than that 1-3 record, but Hodgson is really, really good.
Wilmington Charter (0-4) at A.I. duPont (3-1) - 6:00
SEAN GREENE – A.I. duPont 35-6. Tigers keep their win streak going, while the Force try to keep things competitive.
DMA (3-1) at Cape Henlopen (1-3) - 7:00 (Delaware 105.9 FM)
SEAN GREENE – Cape Henlopen 20-14. I'm looking at that win over Milford as a guide that Cape van find a way to score a second victory.
Dover (2-2) at Milford (2-2) - 7:00 (ESPN 930AM/102.1FM)
SEAN GREENE – Dover 35-14. Dover's offense is averaging 56.5 points in the past 2 weeks. Have fun Milford.
Washington (MD) (0-2) at Seaford (0-3) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Seaford 26-22. Laurel defeated Washington 78-27 last year. Maybe this will end up being the sneaky game of the weekend on Delmarva.
Sussex Tech (2-2) at Smyrna (2-2) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Smyrna 22-6. Smyrna's defense has been playing some strong football, they'll try to get the offense going more in another big Henlopen North match-up.
Polytech (1-3) at Sussex Central (3-1) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Sussex Central 35-6. Schedule ramps back up for Polytech, who couldn't get the win over Laurel last week.
Red Lion (3-1) at Tower Hill (4-0) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Tower Hill 49-14. Red Lion's improved this year, but Hillers have bigger expectations this season.
Archmere (4-0) at Woodbridge (4-0) - 7:00 (WDEL AM1150/101.7FM)
SEAN GREENE – Woodbridge 2(4)-1(4) - It feels right that Archmere just happened to be the opponent for the Blue Raiders. Both teams know the pain of loss, and this will be a special night, no matter the score.
Saint Mark's (3-1) at Appoquinimink (2-2) - 7:30
SEAN GREENE – Appoquinimink 17-14. Not expecting a high scoring game between two teams who suffered narrow losses last week.
Saint Elizabeth (1-3) at Laurel (1-3) - 7:30
SEAN GREENE – Laurel 20-14. Looks like an even match-up, we'll lean towards the home team.
Episcopal Academy (3-0) vs. Salesianum (3-1) - 7:30 (at Caravel)
SEAN GREENE – Episcopal 24-16. These two have played nothing but tight games the last 3 years, but a banged-up Salesianum team might not have the offense to get the win.
Saturday, October 5
Indian River (1-3) at Lake Forest (4-0) - 12:00
SEAN GREENE – Lake Forest 35-8. Lake Forest opened the eyes of the state with their 16-7 win over Friends last week, they can't fall into a trap with Delmar next week.
Dickinson (0-4) at Newark (1-3) - 12:00
SEAN GREENE – Newark 14-6. Both teams are still looking for their first win on the field. Hard to think in the 80s what this game used to mean at the state level.
Conrad (1-3) at Tatnall (1-3) - 12:00
SEAN GREENE – Conrad 21-18. Conrad's 8-0 game at Red Lion last week gives me the thought the Red Wolves would be road warriors.
Howard (4-0) at Christiana (1-3) - 2:00
SEAN GREENE – Howard 35-6. Christiana hasn't made things easy in their 3 losses, but Howard's the best they've seen.
Delcastle (0-4) at Mount Pleasant (1-3) - 2:00
SEAN GREENE – Mount Pleasant 28-7. The Green Knights shake off the taste of 49-6 last week to Hodgson.
St. Georges (2-2) at William Penn (3-1) - 2:00
SEAN GREENE – William Penn 21-14. William Penn hasn't been winning big, but this would be a key one, especially with Middletown looming next week.
Caravel (3-1) at Glasgow (2-2) - 3:30
SEAN GREENE – Caravel 21-20. Glasgow's forfeit to Newark makes this an absolute must-win for their playoff hopes, but if the Bucs aren't beat up from the wild St. Georges game, they should keep rolling along.
Friends (2-2) at Delmar (3-1) - 7:00
SEAN GREENE – Delmar 28-21. A game we wanted to see the two teams schedule in the off-season. How do the Quakers respond to their loss at Lake Forest? How will Delmar react to seeing an actual team from Delaware on their field?
