Middletown's Colin Peluse was selected in the 9th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft by the Oakland Athletics.
The Wake Forest pitcher struggled some this season, going just 3-8 with a 5.74 ERA, but clearly caught the eyes of the Athletics' scouting department, who selected him in a spot with a recommended contract of $149,300.
He moved from a Sunday starter to the ace position of Friday this season for the Demon Deacons, as his ERA ballooned from the 3.87 he put together as a sophomore.
Peluse made immediate impacts as a freshman, earning a 5-1 record and 3.54 ERA. He earned tournament wins over West Virginia and Florida, starting as a mid-week starter but being promoted to conference reliever. Wake came within one game of the College World Series.
Peluse was the only Delaware-connected player to be selected in the first 10 rounds of the Major League draft.
University of Delaware pitcher and Hodgson-alum Brandon Walter is expected to be a day 3 selection.
