A 34-year-old Columbus, New Jersey, man who was formerly the athletic director at McKean High School pled guilty to sexual solicitation of a child, the Delaware Department of Justice announced Monday.

According to Delaware State Police, Brian R. Budd, while working in the Red Clay School District, catfished a 16-year-old male student to meet him under the pretense that a 20-year-old female wanted to be introduced to the juvenile.

The victim agreed to meet in the rear of the Shops of Limestone Hills in Pike Creek. When Budd came walking out of the woods at this location, alone, the teen asked where the woman was, police said.

Police said Budd then texted the teen surreptitiously, pretending to be the woman, requesting Budd be allowed to perform a sex act on the teen. The victim then called police. Budd was taken into custody at the scene.

He faces 15 years in prison when sentenced later this year.
