Investigators are still looking for answers after a private plane caught fire shortly after takeoff in Georgetown Saturday afternoon.

Donald Byrne of Lusby, Maryland had just taken off from Sussex County Airport when the single-engine plane's cockpit filled with smoke, Delaware State Police said.

Byrne turned the plane around and landed, but just before reaching the ground, fire was visible in the cockpit.

Once on the ground, Byrne jumped from the plane while it was still rolling--after it stopped, the plane became engulfed in flames.

Byrne was taken to Beebe Hospital to be treated for injuries police say are not life-threatening.

The cause of the fire isn't known yet.  Delaware State Police and the Federal Aviation Administration are probing the cause.
