Delaware State Police are investigating a drug overdose in a car in traffic on Kirkwood Highway near Marshallton.

Troopers working an unrelated incident nearby responded to what was thought to be an accident on westbound Route 2 at Farrand Drive around 12:45 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2017.

Police got to a small white car stopped in the left turn lane with two people passed out inside and immediately started administering Narcan, the nasal spray designed to halt the effects of an opioid overdose.

New Castle County paramedics responded and treated the pair.

The driver was taken to Christiana Hospital while the passenger was checked out and then arrested.

State Police say the driver will be charged with DUI.
