A man charged in connection to a pursuit in a stolen vehicle that ended in a crash in Downtown Wilmington has now been charged in connection to a stolen gun out of the same city, authorities announced Thursday.
According to Wilmington Police, a .45-caliber handgun was stolen out of a vehicle in the 1700 block of Lancaster Avenue around 6:50 a.m. on May 30, 2019.
Surveillance footage from the scene allowed police to identify Cedrick Facon, 30, on May 31, authorities said, and he was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, third-degree burglary, theft of a firearm, and theft under $1,500. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution pending further proceedings.
On June 1, police said they were able to identify Nijir Lee, 20, as the second suspect. Lee was arrested and charged by Delaware State Police on June 5 for leading authorities on a chase in a stolen vehicle that ended in him striking another occupied vehicle before the vehicle became disabled in the area of 2nd and Walnut streets, police said. He allegedly led police on the chase while a 17-year-old female passenger was also occupying the vehicle.
Authorities have since charged Lee in connection to the stolen handgun incident as well, and he now faces additional charges of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, theft of a firearm, and second-degree conspiracy. He was issued a $13,000 unsecured bond on those charges, but remains committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on the charges stemming from the pursuit.
