An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to the home invasion robbery of an 87-year-old victim in the Cleland Heights community, New Castle County Police announced Tuesday.
According to authorities, Waleem Christian was discovered inside as the victim returned home on November 1, 2019, around 11:30 a.m., and a struggle ensued. Christian allegedly struck the victim and took his keys, stealing his car when he fled.
Police said the victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the vehicle was later recovered in the area of Maryland and 5th avenues.
Christian was taken into custody by the Special Investigations Squad on Monday, November 4, and charged with, felony-first-degree robbery, felony first-degree burglary, possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, felony theft of a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor terroristic threatening. He was committed to the custody of the Department of Correction in lieu of $152,000 secured bond.
