A Wilmington man was charged with falsely reporting a shooting incident.

According to authorities, Andre Rivera told 911 operators an alleged suspect fired a gun at his vehicle in the area of the 300 block of South Jackson Street around 1:50 p.m. on July 8, 2019.

Police said responding officers located the alleged suspect's vehicle, conducted a stop, and found a cooperative suspect and a lack of any evidence suggesting he'd fired a gun from the vehicle, or was even in possession of one at the time.

Rivera denied stating a gun had been fired, police said, but investigating officers checked the 911 calls and heard Rivera clearly stating an individual possessed a gun and had fired it at the scene.

Rivera was charged with falsely reporting an incident and released of his own recognizance.
